C/2022 E2 ATLAS
more info
Comet C/2022 E2 was discovered on 7 March 2022 by ATLAS Chile (Rio Hurtado), that is more than a year and six months before its perihelion passage. Soon, the prediscovery images of this comet were found going back to 23 February 2022. Comet is still observed (as April 2025).
Comet had its closest approach to the Earth on 1 December 2024 (2.99 au), 2.5 months after its perihelion passage.
Currently, the preferred NG solution given here is based on pre-perihelion data span over 2.55 yr in a range of heliocentric distances from 3.67 au to 2.03 au.
This Oort spike comet suffers small planetary perturbations during its passage through the planetary system that likely lead to escape this comet from the solar system on a marginally hyperbolic orbit.
